RM Statement on Mayfield By-Elections

Redbridge Matters congratulates another independent voice in Redbridge Council. It shows you need to listen to the voters to win, rather than become complacent like the Labour Party.

We are pleased at the outcome of the by-election in the Mayfield Ward, which will benefit our communities at large.

We now need to work on getting more independent minds onto the Council to ensure that there is proper scrutiny of the decisions being made as Redbridge residents deserve to know what is going on in the Council.

This by-election is a vivid reflection and rejection of the Labour Party and its politics in Redbridge, which alienated a large section of the borough’s diverse communities.

The Labour Party run-administration of the Council somehow seeks to avoid the public asking questions at its meetings. This practice and these policies should come to an end to ensure democratic accountability. No one seems to be able to ask questions in the council meetings, which is against the spirit of the democratic decision-making practice. Listening to the views of your community is extremely important.

Redbridge Matters will support independent candidates at the upcoming local elections in 2026.

Councillors need to be willing to engage with their local communities and represent the collective interests of residents. If you are such a person who cares about your community and wants to do good for your local area; then we encourage interested individuals who aspire to be councillors to come forward and get in touch with us.

We look forward to hearing from you.
